Did you know? Linked Submissions help Editors coordinate projects

Question-markIn EM, submissions can be linked together for general reference purposes, to group manuscripts by subject, to process several manuscripts together, or to indicate that manuscripts should be printed together. At any point in the editorial workflow, an Editor is able to move a manuscript into an existing group or create a new group.

Within Editor folders, a green chainlink icon appears (see below) next to submissions that have been linked. Clicking on “Linked Submissions” takes Editors to the Linked Submissions page where all manuscripts within a group may be viewed and the group may be modified. A portion of this page is shown below.

Congratulations to Maney Publishing on their 100-journal milestone

Maney_Publishing_LogoAries customer Maney Publishing announces its 100th journal. Read the full press release here.

Since its first journals appeared in 1998, the company has rapidly grown into a well-known publisher with worldwide reach.

Forty Maney Publishing journals use Editorial Manager for electronic workflow management, including International Musculoskeletal Medicine, International Materials Reviews, and War & Society.

Aries is pleased to have contributed to the growth of Maney and we are committed to the evolution of systems that promote our customers’ brands and their relationships with scholars.

Aries Systems supports the ORCID initiative

ORCID-OpenResearcher-ContributorID-LogoORCID, Open Researcher & Contributor ID, is a recently formed organization with a mission to address the problem of ambiguity in author/contributor identification and attribution within scholarly research. The ORCID initiative creates an open registry and system of unique identifiers that may be linked to an individual’s work and to other existing author ID programs.

In anticipation of the initial system launch in late 2011, Aries has announced plans to capture contributor ID’s for authors, reviewers, and editors in Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager. Consistent with Aries’ commitment to publisher-controlled workflow, this feature will be configurable using the web-based interface and tools of EM and PM.

Aries Systems is pleased to support ORCID as a Bronze Sponsor.

TESOL adopts Preprint Manager as its production tracking tool

TESOL-logoTeachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages, Inc. chose Editorial Manager in 2009 for its two journals, TESOL Journal and TESOL Quarterly. In April, the association begins using Preprint Manager to increase efficiency of its content production workflow.

Carol Edwards, Publishing Manager, explains, “Authors submitting manuscripts through EM are happy, and it also serves our internal offices very well, so it was time to extend this seamless experience into the production workflow. The reasons we chose to incorporate PM are that it will help reduce our production time, and that, when combined with EM, it will bring all our workflow information together into one easily accessible source.”

Incorporated in 1966, TESOL is a global association for English language teaching, which offers members serial publications, books, and electronic resources on current issues, ideas, and opportunities in the field of English language teaching.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery® employs Chinese toggle feature

April 2011 Newsletter Archive

The Lippincott Williams & Wilkins publication, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, expands its use of Editorial Manager with a new feature on PRS’ enkwell. On the top right-hand corner of the site is a link that toggles the display of internal EM pages between English and Simplified Chinese.

The language toggle facilitates use of the software by Chinese authors and reviewers, which opens up opportunities for journals that primarily operate in English. Ongoing rapid growth in Chinese academic research and recent quality-enhancement measures by Chinese authorities suggest growth potential for established publications that wish to reach out to Chinese authors.

For more than 60 years, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has been a consistently excellent reference for those in the field of plastic surgery. Read more about this peer-reviewed journal.

To activate the Chinese, German, French, or Japanese interface for your journal or to learn more about the toggle feature, please contact your Aries representative.
