Did you know? Editorial Manager Discussion Forums

Question-markAn innovation introduced in early 2010, Discussion Forums have become a much relied-upon tool for many EM customers. Forums allow informal and confidential discussion between Editors and invited subject-area specialists about a particular submission. The resulting threads remain in the system as a handy reference.

Watch the Discussion Forums Video to see this feature in action.

Solutions to editorial workflow problems

At the recent user group meeting, we asked attendees to identify Editorial Manager features that help solve editorial workflow problems. Below are a couple of examples. They can be easily activated on any Editorial Manager journal.

Editorial Manager’s ability to handle Co-Authors
Submitting Authors are able to easily add contributor names to the submission. Journals can require that the Co-Authors verify their contribution to the manuscript by clicking on an emailed deep-link. Additionally, the Author role may be given permission to view the status of Co-Authors’ verifications.

Single sign-on for Editors
When this feature is enabled, journal staff can toggle between the journals of the same publisher. This is easily done from the same interface, and only requires one EM log-in for all journals.

EMUG 2012: a memorable meeting with far-reaching results

EMUG2012-CollageThanks to all the great EM and PM users as well as speakers who contributed to making the 10th Annual U.S. Editorial Manager User Group Meeting both memorable and highly productive! The two-day meeting revolved around discussions of the latest EM and PM functionality and user ideas for future enhancements. Here’s some of the attendee feedback:

“Very impressed with the commitment to user-generated requirement finding, in terms of collecting specific wish list feedback as well as in conversations with employees….”

“Love to hear about NEW features for the future – and to suggest them. Networking with other users is so valuable!”

[Found most helpful or enjoyable:] “Feature workshop and EM Bootcamp. Also the hospitality, warmth and availability of Aries staff for asking questions about EM.”

To celebrate our 10th Annual EMUG, a special reception was held at the Top of the Hub’s Skywalk in Boston. Attendees and Aries staff reported having had a wonderful time networking and enjoying the amazing views from 50 stories above the city.

Aries’ successful partnership with Atlas Co, Ltd. of Tokyo

ATLAS_logoFor several years, Aries Systems’ partnership with Atlas Co, Ltd. has facilitated support of Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager in Japan. The relationship continues successfully, with nearly twice as many J-STAGE (Japan Science and Technology) journals projected to launch EM in 2012 as did in 2011. Through Atlas, many independent journals have also adopted EM and its Japanese language interface and toggle, such as the Japanese Journal of Thrombosis and Hemostasis: http://www.edmgr.com/jjsth.

For the support of its customers, Atlas is organizing the first Japanese Editorial Manager User Group Meeting, which will be held on September 28, 2012 in Tokyo. The agenda is packed with informative sessions on new and upcoming EM features, Preprint Manager, and Commerce Manager – plus an interactive workshop and a Q&A component.

Aries extends a special thanks to Hibiki Osawa and Akiko Namiki of Atlas for making the trip to Boston for the 2012 U.S. Editorial Manager User Group Meeting!

Leprosy Review chooses Editorial Manager

LeprosyReview-JournalCoverAries welcomes new customer LEPRA Health in Action, which will begin using Editorial Manager as its workflow solution for the journal Leprosy Review.

The organization works to treat and provide support to those affected by numerous diseases of poverty. Without a large publishing budget to draw on, the charity found EM to be affordable. It also appreciated the flexibility of EM’s user database.

The American Psychological Association to deploy Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager for 70+ journals

APA-horiz_logo

Aries is pleased to announce that the American Psychological Association has just selected Editorial Manager for peer review of 70+ journals.

According to Susan J. A. Harris, Senior Director of APA Journals, “We made the decision to partner with Aries primarily because Editorial Manager will provide us with many of the additional features that have been requested by our editors, reviewers, and authors over the past several years. Aries has a proven track record of innovation and established processes of enhancing the system and is a true market leader, as evidenced by their broad client base of publishers, both large and small, around the world. We are excited about moving forward with the process of transitioning all our journals to Editorial Manager over the next two years.”

Several of APA’s journals are already using Aries’ Software as a Service, including International Perspectives in Psychology: http://www.edmgr.com/ips.
