Did You Know? Pre-submission inquiry in Editorial Manager

questionmark-redDid you know that Editorial Manager offers the flexibility to configure a ‘Pre-submission inquiry?’ This ‘initial query’ article type allows authors to initiate a preliminary dialogue about an article’s suitability for the journal.

These inquiries can potentially save both authors and editors time. If approved, the full submission process can automatically proceed, carrying forward all appropriate metadata from the preliminary inquiry. If not approved, the author hasn’t wasted time completing all steps necessary for a full submission, and remains free to submit the paper to other more appropriate publications.

Aries is proud to announce having joined CHORUS as an Affiliate Member.

“As one of CHORUS’ earliest supporters and now as an Affiliate Member, Aries Systems continues to be a strong ally in CHORUS’s mission to provide sustainable, cost-effective, and transparent public access to content reporting on funded research,” said Howard Ratner, CHORUS Executive Director. “Aries Systems’ Editorial Manager helps drive the funder identification piece of our workflow, further enhancing the value that publishers bring to scholarly research.”

12.1: Editor Chain Enhancements

editor-chain-screenshotFall is right around the corner, which also means version 12.1 releases soon!

Upon upgrade, start saving time with editor chain enhancements. At the article level, assign two or more editors in one action. For example, this is ideal way to automatically include an Editor-in-Chief in the workflow without the need for manual assignment.

The Metric Tide recommends requiring ORCID

MetricTideCoverA recent independent research report, The Metric Tide, asserts,

“Publishers should mandate ORCIDs and ISNIs and funder grant references for article submission, and retain this metadata throughout the publication lifecycle. This will facilitate exchange of information on research activity, and help deliver data and metrics at minimal burden to researchers and administrators.”

For publishers, mandating collection of ORCID iDs at submission can be a simple configuration change. This stipulation can be made at the article type level, so as to enable mandatory collection for some article types, such as original research, without applying it to other article types, such as letters to the editor.

Brill collects APCs with RightsLink for Open Access

Brill-logoAfter having launched the four OA journals Brill Open Social Science, Brill Open Law, Brill Open Biology, and Brill Open Humanities in the Fall last year, the Leiden, Netherlands-based international publisher Brill is currently extending APC billing to all its journals using EM through the integration with RightsLink for OA.

“Using APC billing offers us quite a number of benefits including that it really saves us a lot of time in administration life,” says Stephanie Paalvast, Open Access Program Manager at Brill, citing reporting and author convenience as additional benefits.
