Did you know? You can use Editorial Manager to assign DOIs to your manuscripts.

Question-markDigital Object Identifiers (DOIs®) facilitate persistent identification for content objects on the Internet.

Assigning DOIs to manuscripts makes it easier for your audience to find and cite manuscripts.

Editorial Manager (EM) and Preprint Manager (PM) can be configured to automatically generate and assign DOIs, in a specified format, for your manuscripts based on specific events in the editorial workflow (for example, at manuscript acceptance). The process can be configured according to journal/publisher preference. Assigned DOIs can be “transmitted” from the system for deposit into repositories such as CrossRef.

Thinking about collecting submission fees? Think Commerce Manager!

Available as an add-on module in Editorial Manager (EM), Aries Commerce Manager (CM) seamlessly integrates e-commerce capability into your workflow. With a few mouse clicks you can activate submission fees for your journal. With a few more mouse clicks you can change the submission price, or modify the payment options. It’s never been so easy to experiment with new business models!

“Allen Press provides peer review support to a variety of STM journals. Many of those journals are receiving far more submissions than the editorial office can process; and peer review costs are rising,” says Elizabeth Garrett, Supervisor, Peer Review Support, Allen Press. “By implementing submission fees with CM for some of our customers, we’ve eliminated many of the submissions that weren’t likely to be published, and have offset the cost of peer review for those customers as well. CM was very easy to implement and requires very little work in terms of tracking.”

Capture research funding sources to simplify compliance

research-funding-questionFunding organizations such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) require deposit of funded manuscripts into content repositories. To help publishers and authors meet these obligations, Editorial Manager (EM) author questionnaires can be configured to capture funding sources during manuscript submission. This information is available downstream to trigger appropriate deposits. Author questionnaires can be tailored to article type and revision status, and there is no charge for configuration when undertaken by the journal!

EEMUG2010Despite an inconvenient snowstorm and consequent travel problems, more than 60 attendees participated in the 2010 Aries European Editorial Manager (EM) and Preprint Manager (PM) User Group meetings, Dec 2-3 in London, England. We hope you’ll contact Aries with any feedback we can use to continue to improve our user group meetings. Save the date – next year’s European User Group Meeting will be held on Monday, November 28, 2011 in central London.
