Automated Reviewer Reminders

laptop-man-reviewingAutomated e-mail reviewer reminders can be an effective way for journals to reduce the time taken for scholarly manuscript peer review. However, unchanging, inappropriate and relentless emails can also alienate the all-important reviewer community. For this reason, Editorial Manager includes unique features that empower journal staff to continuously tailor and refine their approach to reviewer reminders:

  • Journal staff can modify the text and content of reminders at any time.
  • Journal staff can add-to or remove batches of reminders.
  • Journal staff can trigger manual reminders that exclude selected individuals.

For help configuring automated reminders, please contact your Aries Account Coordinator.

Using Editorial Manager to Process ICMJE Disclosure Forms

ICMJE_LogoThe International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) is a group of general medical journal editors whose participants promulgate a “Uniform Disclosure Form for Potential Conflicts of Interest” in PDF format. Journals using Editorial Manager can easily incorporate the ICMJE form into their author submission workflow using EM’s “Companion File” feature. The completed form is stored in the manuscript’s “File Inventory”. For detailed advice about how to include the ICMJE form into journal workflow, please contact your Aries Account Coordinator. At the 2010 Editorial Manager User Group (EMUG) Meeting, we have scheduled a session to discuss the ICMJE form.

Aries Announces Extended Reporting Capabilities for Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager

EM and PM have long provided robust reporting functionality. For example, journals can easily see “average number of days to first decision”, and reviewer performance statistics with the click of a mouse. Building on these capabilities, EM and PM Version 8 will add Enterprise Analytics Reporting (EAR). EAR is being implemented using a new generation of web-native reporting technology called Izenda (www.izenda.com). For journals wishing to create custom reports, EAR will diminish the need to manipulate extracted data with external tools such as pivot tables, and will enable generation of graphical reports such as the examples below. Extended Reporting will be covered in depth at our upcoming 2010 Editorial Manager User Group (EMUG) Meeting in June.
