Did you know? You can customize details shown for each manuscript

Question-markEM journals can add their own manuscript metadata fields and determine which Editor roles can view the information. For example, if a journal has an idiosyncratic requirement to track the newsworthy nature of individual manuscripts, this can be configured as a “details” field for use only by appropriate editorial staff.

New EM feature to be showcased at Online Information Asia-Pacific

aries_systems_logo_4cAries Systems and partner Asia Pacific Medinfo Co. Ltd. will be exhibiting at Online Information Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong on March 23-24, 2011. This conference brings together the latest innovations and ideas from the information world.

Aries will be showcasing a new feature that allows toggling between the English and Simplified Chinese language interfaces of Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager. The toggle function facilitates use of the software by Chinese authors and reviewers, offering journals that primarily operate in the English language a cost-effective way to tap into the fast-growing Chinese-language segment of scholarly research.

If you are attending, please stop by our booth, #350, or email us to set up a meeting in advance. To activate the Simplified Chinese interface for your authors and reviewers or to learn more about the toggle feature, please contact your Aries representative.

Version 8.1 went to general release in January

v8.1Thanks to the Rapid Application Development and Deployment (RADD) methodologies used by Aries, we are pleased to announce the third major release within a 12-month period. After beta testing and gamma deployment starting in October 2010, EM and PM Version 8.1 went to general release in the second week of January 2011.

Tony Alves, Director of Product Management, commented, “Enhanced Reviewer form configuration options in 8.1 enable journals to add a variety of response formats such as drop-down lists and check boxes. Reviewers can be asked to respond ‘yes’ or ‘no’, after which the system displays a follow-up question. Configurability enables journals to ask different reviewer questions based on article type or revision number. All of this means that journals can collect better data from reviewers and save money because reviewer forms are configured without the time or cost of software code changes. Another great feature in 8.1 is the ability to automatically email graphical reports in PDF format to editors on a weekly or monthly schedule.”

As usual, the upgrade does not require any system down-time to deploy, and is performed incrementally to minimize user disruption. If you would like to be notified of the launch for your journal and receive a copy of the release notes, please contact Aries’ Customer Service Department.

Cairn.info, French-language publisher services group, selects Editorial Manager

CAIRN_INFOCairn.info provides services to francophone publishers of social science and humanities journals and books. The company specializes in the transition from paper to electronic and provides worldwide distribution.

Commencing in 2011, Cairn.info will use Editorial Manager for the provision of online submission and peer review in French. Marc Minon, Managing Director at Cairn.info said, “In deciding to broaden the range of services offered to our partner journals, we chose EM because it seems to be the most powerful and flexible solution; it is tried and tested by thousands of journals around the world; and Aries proposed an accurate French interface that would meet our partners’ needs.”

The company’s web site is www.cairn.info.

The APHA advances with Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager

APHA-logoThe American Public Health Association (APHA) is the oldest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world and has been working to improve public health since 1872.

The APHA publishes the American Journal of Public Health, the leading forum for publication of public health research. The journal recently successfully transitioned its peer review operations to EM and has also deployed Preprint Manager for production tracking and transfer of accepted manuscripts to the HighWire platform.

Commenting on the selection of EM, Brian Selzer, APHA Production Manager, identified as pivotal “regular Editorial Manager version releases that provide valuable new enhancements to us as the end-user in the Software-as-a-Service model.”

AER case study explains how EM helps association optimize resources

AER-logoHaving managed their peer-reviewed journal manually and with the aid of outsourced volunteers, in 2008 the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER) selected the EM solution. The move to the electronic system enabled on-time release of the quarterly journal Insight: Research and Practice in Visual Impairment and Blindness and several categorical improvements in content. The association found that the flexibility of EM has resulted in cost minimization, as EM is also utilized to publish books and abstracts and to serve a university program approval function.
