Leading Journal Reports on its Use of Automated Reference Checking and Linking

AJO-logoSarah Duncan Powers, Managing Editor at the American Journal of Ophthalmologygave an informative presentation regarding the journal’s use of automated reference checking at EMUG 2009. She indicated that adoption of the system in 2006 was motivated by her board’s concern regarding erroneous or manufactured references. Historically the burden was on the reviewer to validate references. Sarah discussed the journal’s transition to automated reference checking and observed that: “3 years later, only a small percentage of revised papers come in with incorrect references, and of those, the majority are due to smaller errors. No article is accepted until all references have been accounted for by either the checker or the author.”

Impact Factor Increase for Long Time Editorial Manager Journal

Holzforschung_journalHolzforschung, published by Walter de Gruyter, is an international scholarly journal that publishes cutting-edge research on the biology, chemistry, physics and technology of wood and wood components. In 2008 Impact Factor of Holzforschung increased to 1.278 (now it ranks #3 of 18 in Materials Science, Paper & Wood).

Holzforschung was an early adopter of Editorial Manager and went live with online submission and peer review in February of 2004. Congratulations! (Visit the journal at: www.editorialmanager.com/holz)

American Nuclear Society Selects Editorial Manager

ANS_logoThe American Nuclear Society journals will be deploying Editorial Manager for online submission and peer review. Commenting on the selection of the system, Mary Beth Gardner, Publisher in the Scientific Publications Department of the Society observed that EM was the most robust and configurable system reviewed and offered the greatest functionality and flexibility. The information technology department was also impressed with the Aries mirrored data center infrastructure.

EMUG 2009 A Great Success!

EMUG2009The Seventh Annual Editorial Manager User Group (EMUG) meeting was held in Cambridge, MA and drew close to 100 attendees this year. There were several guest speakers and, despite the rain, it made for an informative and enjoyable time!

Participant feedback was very positive, as most attendees rated the meeting “very useful” overall. When asked what aspects of the event were most beneficial, one attendee responded, “Information about future releases, freedom to ask questions and the opportunity to talk to other users.”

Aries acknowledges and thanks the user community for the many enhancement suggestions made during the “feature workshops” and we are enthusiastic about their implementation in future releases.
