Using Editorial Manager to Process Book Reviews

UCP-logoThe University of Chicago Press has deployed Editorial Manager for 32 journals. Some of these journals specialize in book reviews. Aries is grateful to Michael R. Boudreau, Senior Publishing Technology Analyst at UCP, who worked with Aries to develop new configuration options to facilitate processing book reviews in Editorial Manager. At the upcoming EMUG meeting (Cambridge, MA – June 17 & 18) Michael will give a presentation explaining how Chicago journals use the system.

Forms Processing – No Extra Charge!

Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager provide several options for processing journal forms. For example, journal administrators can configure submission questions that appear for appropriate article types and that can be varied for new and revised submissions. This approach captures responses so that they can be checked and transmitted to other systems following manuscript acceptance.

Alternatively, (as in the above graphic) external forms (e.g. Word, PDF) can be uploaded during or after submission. These forms are (optionally) excluded from the manuscript PDF, but are stored in the manuscript “file inventory” folder so that they are accessible throughout workflow. These configuration options are free to EM/PM users and can be modified at any time by the journal administrator as forms requirements change. To configure forms, please contact your Aries Account Coordinator.

The Clinical Biochemist Reviews to Deploy Editorial Manager and Preprint Manager Production Tracking

AustraliaMapThe Australasian Association of Clinical Biochemists has entered into an agreement with Aries to deploy Editorial Manager for The Clinical Biochemist Reviews. The journal will also use Preprint Manager to manage post acceptance workflow and automated reference processing.

Committee on Publication Ethics

COPE-LogoNumerous Aries Systems customers are members of COPE. COPE is a forum for publishers and editors of peer-reviewed journals to discuss issues related to the integrity of work submitted to be published in their journals. It supports and encourages editors to report, catalogue and instigate investigations into ethical problems in the publication process. More at http://publicationethics.org.

Preparing Authors for Manuscript Submission

RebeccaBenner-headshotAppropriate preparation of authors for manuscript submission can result in downstream efficiencies and higher manuscript quality. Rebecca Benner, Managing Editor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, has been working with authors and scholarly journals for more than 12 years. At the upcoming Editorial Manager User Group meeting (Cambridge, MA – June 17 & 18), we are pleased to announce that Rebecca will make a presentation on the best author preparation strategies. Attendees will benefit from practical advice, hints and suggestions.

Arab Law Quarterly Goes Live with Editorial Manager

Brill-logoThe Arab Law Quarterly, a Brill journal, has been publishing manuscripts concerning Shari’a and secular law for more than three decades. The journal now accepts online submissions using Editorial Manager at http://www.edmgr.com/alq. Commenting on the launch of the system Daan Vernooij, Project Manager at Brill, said: “Editorial Manager is a great solution for this journal because it provides world-wide access for the editors, supports Unicode character sets, and meets journal workflow”.

Co-Author Confirmations

Have you ever wished that there was a convenient way for co-authors to acknowledge their participation in a manuscript? Now they can! Appropriate configuration of Editorial Manager triggers an automatic email to all listed co-authors when the manuscript is submitted. Co-authors can then confirm their participation and agreement to journal policy by clicking on a “deep link” in the email. The manuscript record is updated with each confirmation so that the journal office can quickly identify and pursue any missing confirmations.

Co-Author-Confirmation

An additional configuration option can be used to require co-author registration- thereby allowing access to manuscript information including editorial status.

To learn about Co-author workflows, please contact your Aries Account Coordinator.
