Springer Nature to Require ORCID in 46 Journals

Editorial Manager customer Springer Nature and Aries Integration Partner ORCID announced an important collaboration earlier this month. Springer Nature will require ORCID iDs from corresponding authors in 46 journals, and also allows authors to include ORCID iDs in 1,200 Proceedings volumes annually. See this video to configure ORCID requirements by article type.

Alison Mitchell, Chief Publishing Advisor at Springer Nature, says: “We want our authors to share their discoveries and receive proper credit for doing so. Hundreds of thousands of our authors already support ORCID, and our technical systems are already very well-integrated, but we hope that the upcoming trial will go further to ensure that even more academics sign up for ORCID and get recognition for their work.” Read the full release.

BMC Psychology Pilots Results-Free Review

BioMed Central launched a results-free review pilot on BMC Psychology in December. Results-free means that the results and discussion sections are initially omitted from the version of the manuscript sent through the peer review process.

According to Liz Bal, Associate Publisher for BioMed Central and SpringerOpen, the preliminary results have shown the process to be feasible and author uptake has been high.

“Our focus now is to optimize the technical workflow so that results-free review can be rolled out with minimal extra work to other journals at BMC, as part of a full randomized-controlled trial (RCT),” said Bal. “Our aim for the RCT is to provide definitive evidence of whether a relatively simple change to standard peer-review processes, easily enacted by journals, can reduce publication bias, and thus provide an evidence-based solution to the wider reproducibility crisis.”

Editage Surveys Author Community

EM Ingest partner Editage is surveying the global author community toward gaining
a better understanding of author perspectives on academic publishing. The survey will remain open until 20K responses have been gathered across the world. Upon completion, Editage will publish the report.

Why not share the survey with your author community? The survey is available in multiple languages: English, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese.

APA collects 12,000 authenticated ORCID iDs

American Psychological Association (APA) has collected over 12,000 authenticated ORCID iDs
across its 90 journals using Editorial Manager for submission and peer review workflows.

“We are fairly early in our ORCID adoption, but we’re really excited about the possibilities,” said Peer Review Manager Lois Jones at APA. “We appreciate the different integration options, and how easy it’s becoming
for authors and reviewers to link their ORCID iDs.”

To learn more about these flexible ORCID integration options, visit the Aries Video Library.
