Tell me a little about yourself – how long have you been working for Aries? What did you do before joining Aries?

I’ve been with Aries since May 2018. I’ve worked in the accounting field for 24 years now. I have experience in various different industries – software, manufacturing, standard accounting. I’ve done a little bit of everything!

What have your roles at Aries been?

My role at Aries has evolved quite a bit from when I was first brought onto the team over a year ago. I started out as an Accounting Specialist and I spearheaded the usual Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable duties. Now, I am the Aries Office Manager/Finance Administrator. With this change, I have added on a bunch of different responsibilities such as in-house HR duties and office maintenance/management on top of the finance aspects of my job.

How have your various past roles helped you in your current position?

In previous roles, I have worn different hats so I am used to balancing different responsibilities at the same time. I had experience in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Human Resources prior to Aries, which has equipped me with the skills to branch out in my role here.

Tell me a little about your department and the people you work most closely with.

I primarily work with John Arseneault, the Director of Finance here at Aries. We work closely on all Accounts Receivable together. I also work with Aries COO Jennifer Fleet, assisting her with on-boarding new employees, coordinating company outings and events, escalating urgent invoices or issues that need resolve, things like that.

In terms of working with other departments, I work with everyone! I am considered the go-to for all Aries employees for anything finance, office or HR related. I take care of all their requests for ordering office supplies, assisting with expense reports and company cards, orienting new employees, addressing their office/building maintenance queries as they arise. I do my best to keep everything up and running as smoothly as possible!

Describe your typical work day.

My typical work day contains a little bit of everything! I am typically the first one in the office each morning, I like an early start! I usually begin my day with Accounts Receivable, I can do Accounts Payable at any time. Throughout the day I can have a jumble of different things come my way. I can have an employee stop by my office with a question about processing expenses, invoices, company credit cards, and the like. I can place orders for supplies or equipment, work on coordinating upcoming company parties or host guests visiting our office. I may call maintenance to have an issue resolved around the office, for example, if the air conditioning is busted or if we run out of paper towels. When we have new employees starting, I conduct employee orientation and training (office tours, explaining company policies, providing them with paperwork, etc). I handle pretty much everything and anything that is needed office- or finance-wise, so my day can be unpredictable as things come up.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

I like being busy! I wear many different hats in my current role, so there is always something that needs doing! I like jumping between my different responsibilities throughout the day. For example, if I am tired of doing AR for the day, I can bounce to maintenance or HR duties. I’m never bored! It keeps things interesting, and makes me more agile.

What are you currently reading, listening to, or watching?

I love everything country music, both new and old. I just went to a Dierks Bentley concert a few weeks ago. I always say to my Amazon Echo “Alexa, play some country!” But I actually like all genres of music.

I am also an avid reader. Specifically, I love to read murder mystery law books, kind of like Law & Order, any “legal whodunnit”. I recently finished the Irish Johansen’s series.

Tell me about some of your hobbies/interests outside of work?

Hanging with friends and family! Anyone who knows me well knows that I’d do anything for my family, so I host them over frequently. I love going to concerts during the summer time. I like going to the beach and traveling – I’m always out and about!
