Connect with Aries at SSP’s 45th Annual Conference

The Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) will host their 45th annual meeting in Portland, Oregon from May 31 – June 2, 2023. The theme, “Transformation, Trust, and Transparency,” highlights the underlying issues introduced from the challenge of increasing pressure to grow or shift as the industry changes drastically around us. Aries is a proud exhibitor and diamond level WiFi sponsor of SSP 2023!

On the morning of Friday, June 2, Aries Systems will be featured during the Previews Session, a lightning round-style plenary spotlighting the latest innovations and content in the industry. Attendees can participate in the interactive voting for “Best Innovation” at the conclusion of the previews. Aries’ Senior Director of Client Services, Ryan Walther, will be presenting Take Control of Your Content: Eliminating Limitations in the Production Workflow to highlight our LiXuid Manuscript™ innovation designed to deliver a dynamic, centralized, and structured end-to-end article production experience with greater accuracy, tighter collaboration, and decreased costs and time to publication.

Aries was also invited to participate in Copyright Clearance Center’s (CCC) Industry Breakout session, Collaboration Through Integration: The Key to Transparent OA Funding Eligibility, on Wednesday, May 31. Aries’ Director of Business Development, Pierre Montagano, will join the discussion to detail the power of partnership, interoperability, and standardized identifiers to collect and leverage accurate metadata to support open access (OA) funding and business models. CCC’s RightsLink for Scientific Communications and Ringgold integrations with Aries’ Editorial Manager® (EM) is on the leading-edge of OA workflows for both Authors and publishers for efficient and quality APC processing and institutional metadata capture.

Collaboration Through Integration: The Key to Transparent OA Funding Eligibility

Industry Breakout Session | Wednesday, May 31 | 3:00 – 3:30pm

Scholarly communications stakeholders are tasked to track organizational affiliation throughout the research lifecycle: from grant application, through various iterations of research output (including supplementary materials), and on to manuscript submission(s) and publication(s). Publishers, funders, and institutions have shared with CCC that the necessary author and institutional metadata is frequently inconsistent and inaccurate, and they face major challenges to ensure that quality metadata runs throughout the publishing process.

In this Industry Breakout session, leading systems providers – Copyright Clearance Center, Aries Systems, and ScholarOne – will explore the importance of metadata capture, the challenges that they hear from their customers, and how these challenges are affecting the move to OA business models. This informative session will showcase what these systems providers are doing to collaborate to solve these challenges and provide user-friendly paths to OA.

Capturing and preserving researcher, institutional, funder, and grant IDs throughout the research workflow is particularly problematic when modeling and paying for Open Access. This is especially true for institutional agreements, including “Read and Publish” deals and other transformative agreements, where an author’s institutional affiliation is often the key factor in determining eligibility for funding.

Take Control of Your Content: Eliminating Limitations in the Production Workflow

Previews Session | Friday, June 2 | 9:00 – 10:15am

The traditional scholarly production process introduces several limitations. Typically, static, unstructured Word documents or PDFs are shuffled between Authors, Editors, production staff, and external vendors across disparate systems. This results in disrupted workflow, increased costs, risk to quality, delays to publication, and limited access to key metadata during workflow and post-publication. Leveraging the power of XML behind-the-scenes, LiXuid Manuscript™ removes these costly silos and format constraints to deliver a streamlined alternative to traditional article production.

Powered by Aries’ workflow management solution, ProduXion Manager®, LiXuid Manuscript transforms static content into dynamic data, putting content control back in the hands of the experts for tighter collaboration and quality control. Centralized to a single system, LiXuid’s auto-XML conversion, content editing, and auto-pagination tools enable a seamless, disruption-free, time- and cost-effective workflow with no user XML expertise required! Join this showcase to learn more about exciting new tools in the LiXuid Manuscript suite to help publishers harness a single-stream, end-to-end production experience with limitations.
